Highlights & Analysis

  1. Lahore Qalandars were faced with only one option and that was to win this match against Islamabad United to stay alive in this tournament but the in-form batsman Luke Ronchi had other plans in his arsenal as he handed a sixth consecutive loss to Lahore Qalandars in this PSL while practically kicking them out of this tournament.
  2. The toss was won by Islamabad United who opted to field first. Lahore’s openers Fakhar and Devcich shared a 56-run partnership between them and laid a solid foundation for their team.  After this solid start Lahore missed the trick here by not sending their pinch hitter Sunil Narine at this stage of the game, or even Brendon McCullum who would have been a great option at this stage of the game.
  3. Anyways, after the openers laid down the grounds to make a big score in this match batsmen Agha Salman and Dinesh Ramdin managed to score only in single digits.
  4. The skipper, Brendon McCullum came and stabilized the score by hitting 33 off 12 balls, however all other batsmen including Lahore’s prime pinch hitter Sunil Narine were unable to score in double digits. This led to Lahore scoring a mere 163 in 20 overs.
  5. Islamabad’s bowlers did really well to restrict Lahore to 163. The highlights of their bowling were Faheem Ashraf who took three wickets for 32 while Shadab Khan spun the ball with both grip and turn and gave only 15 runs in his 4 overs while also getting a wicket as a reward for his efforts.
  6. Lahore Qalandars came onto the field, feeling pretty confident that they could end their losing streak this time however, Islamabad United especially Luke Ronchi in particular, was very unforgiving as he replicated his last innings by scoring another fifty to gave Islamabad a flying start.
  7. After Islamabad’s opener Duminy departed, Islamabad sent their pinch hitter Shadab Khan who shared an 87-run partnership with the New Zealander to rattle the already torn Lahore team. After the departure of these two batsmen Misbah-ul-Haq and Sahibzada Farhan finished things off in the 18th over to hand Lahore their 6th consecutive loss this season.
  8. Lahore Qalandar bowlers put in a mediocre performance except for Narine who took 3 wickets and went for only 28 runs in his 4 overs.
  9. Maybe it is time for Lahore to do a complete revamp of their team and to just win one match for the sake of their fans if not for themselves.
