Bahrain’s Sadik Mikhou won the men’s 1500-metre gold by running a perfect race in a soaking wet track. As the race got underway the down pour started but the weather did not disturb Mikhou as in the final 200 metres he surged ahead to win the gold in 3 minutes – 36.04 seconds. With this the Bahrain gold medal tally rose to nine athletics golds.
In the middle distance races, Morocco is normally considered to usually perform well and this time it was not different as they won the gold and silver medals. Fouad Elkaam went on to win the silver in 3:37:81 while Brahim Kaazouzi also from Morroco clocked 3:38:24 and edged out Bahrain’s Benson Kiplagat Seurei.
