Belarusian Victoria Azarenka ousted Serena Williams and setup the US Open Final encounter with Naomi Osaka on Saturday. The match which lasted for nearly two hours was played in the Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York.
The first game was very easily won by Serena 1-6, However, there on Victoria had a different touch and won the next two games rather convincingly 6-3, 6-3. She improved her serve game and substantially reduced the unforced errors during lengthy rallies.
Victoria who has been twice the Grand Slam winner has never defeated Serena before in a Grand Slam. Victoria the former world champion was beaten by Serena in the US Open final during 2013.
The 31 year old had last won the 2013 Australian Open Grand Slam title, which was also retention of the title as she had also won it the previous year.
If Serena would have been able to win this years US Open, she would have fulfilled her wish to equal the 24 Grand Slam singles titles record of Margaret Court.
