The first ever international rated Scrabble tournament at a provincial level – The Punjab Open Scrabble Championship was successfully organised in Lahore.
With participation of players from the main cities Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi and Peshawar, the event was an interesting clash and challenge for minds with competitive knowledge. However, different levels of experiences in playing international standard Scrabble.
The winner was Mr. Tariq Pervez from Karachi, who is one of the most experienced players in the Pakistan Scrabble circuit. He won 8 of his 9 games and had a spread of 1008.
Pre tournament favourite Mr. Abdullah Abbasi of Islamabad finished 2nd with 7 wins and a spread of 956. Both his losses were against the eventual winner Tariq Pervez. Mr. Khalid Javed of Lahore was 3rd with 7 wins and a spread of 462.
On conclusion of the event Mr. Adeel Niaz of World Time Institute awarded the prizes.
