The 49th U.S. Open Squash Championships had a rather anti climax ending in the Men’s Final, as the Egyptian stalwart Ali Farag retired hurt in the first game. Thereby, the Peruvian Diego Elias lifted the 2022 Trophy without any competition. The Women title was a Egyptian affair, in which Nouran Gohar scored a hat trick by winning the title for third time in a row.

Diego Elias defeated three-time winner Mohamed ElShorbagy, winning 12-10, 11-7, and 11-6 to advance as the first Peruvian to the U.S. Open final.

Mohamed ElShorbagy defeated second seed Paul Coll to proceed to his seventh U.S. Open semi-final.
Both of the higher-seeded participants in the women’s draw, Joelle King and Nour El Sherbini, clinched spots in the semi-finals. King was the first to proceed, ending home aspirations by defeating Sabrina Sobhy, the last remaining American in the draw, in a hard-fought three-game match 19-17, 11-9, 11-8.

Farag defeated last year’s runner-up Tarek Momen in straight games to advance to the semi-finals and become a two-time U.S. Open champion after also winning the tournament in 2019.
After defeating US No. 1 Amanda Sobhy and advancing to the semifinals of the PSA World Tour Platinum competition held at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center, Nour El Tayeb dashed national aspirations of hosting the 2022 U.S. Open. The top seed Nouran Gohar defeated Rowan Elaraby in the other women’s quarterfinal after coming back from a game behind.

Paul Coll and Mohamed ElShorbagy, who defeated Ramit Tandon of India and Moustafa El Sirty of Egypt, will face off against one another in the men’s competition’s quarterfinals.
Sabrina Sobhy defeated second seed Hania El Hammamy at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center to rejoin older sister Amanda in the final eight, advancing her to the quarterfinals of a Platinum event for the first time.
Nour El Sherbini, the third seed, pushed through the excruciating agony to defeat Wales’ Tesni Evans and advanced to the quarterfinals.
Day 3 Brief
Youssef Soliman of Egypt won his match against fellow and eighth seed Mazen Hesham on day three of the U.S. Open at the Arlen Specter Squash Center in Philadelphia, moving him into the quarterfinals of his second Platinum event.
Nour El Tayeb, a seeded underdog in the women’s tournament, finished off day three by defeating Sarah-Jane Perry of England on Glass Court East in just 24 minutes to advance to the quarterfinals.

After victories by Olivia Clyne and the Sobhy twins, Amanda and Sabrina, three American women will line up together for the first time in the third round of the women’s competition, making history.
Sabrina, the younger sister of Amanda, defeated Canada’s Hollie Naughton in a nail-biting five-game match to go to the final 16 for the first time.
The current champion Nouran Gohar started her title defence with a 3-0 victory over Welshwoman Emily Whitlock. Hania El Hammamy and Nour El Sherbini, two more players who rank in the top three in the world, also won.
Day 1 Brief
Todd Harrity and Spencer Lovejoy competed in two all-American matches on the first day of the competition. Todd Harrity was the only American male to win on day one. He defeated Spencer Lovejoy by scores of 12-10, 11-8, and 11-5 to advance to the next round and face Miguel Rodriguez of Colombia.
In the women’s competition, with victories over Haley Mendez and Ka Yi Lee, Sabrina Sobhy and Olivia Clyne of the United States secured a spot in the round of 32. Sobhy outran Mendez in their matchup, winning 11-1, 11-6, and 11-3 to advance to the next round and face Hollie Naughton of Canada.
