Wicket By Mohammad Nawaz On The First Ball
On the first ball of HBL PSL 5, Islamabad United lost the wicket of Colin Munro at the hands of Mohammad Nawaz. Colin ended up dollying the ball straight in the hands of Mohammad Nawaz and this marked the official start of this tournament.
Opening Ceremony Presenter VJ Godil Controversy
Amid all the cricketing action, one of the opening ceremony presenters, VJ Godil was heavily criticized for his hosting and the backlash was so much that PCB ended up removing him from his position. The entire social media was bombarded with memes ridiculing the VJ and his family and the PCB was forced to replace him. The PCB, however, claimed that the VJ was replaced due to his scornful remarks against the renowned Pakistani singer, Ali Zafar.
Rules Broken Scandal – Cellphone Used In Dugout
In the second match of the HBL PSL 5 between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings, a team member was caught in the Karachi Kings’ dugout using a cellphone. The photo shared by Allsportspk as well has been gone viral all over social media. Using mobiles phones is strictly prohibited during a match.
Umar Akmal Suspended
Umar Akmal was suspended by the PCB and is not allowed to play any cricket till the Anti-corruption Unit completes its investigation. PCB permitted Quetta Gladiators to name Umar’s replacement and Umar Akmal has officially been replaced by Anwar Ali in this year’s PSL.
First Century Scored By Kamran Akmal
In the fourth game of this year’s PSL, Kamran Akmal scores this year’s first and the third century of his career in PSL. His century took 55 balls, leading his team to a four wicket win against the defending champions, Quetta Gladiators.
Technology Failure – Babar Azam’s Lucky Escape
In the match seven of PSL, Babar Azam’s caught behind was referred to the DRS but a clear edge was not shown on the snickometer. The players of Quetta Gladiators showed their distress at this decision as the ball even seem to clearly deviate of Babar’s bat before it was caught behind by the wicket keeper, Sarfaraz Ahmed. This lucky stiff did not last long for Babar as he was dismissed soon after by Tymal Mills.
Ball Tampering – Jason Roy accuses Wahab Riaz
During the ending overs of the first innings of the Quetta Gladiators vs Peshawar Zalmi game, Wahab Riaz and Jason Roy were seen to be involved in a sledging battle, and Wahab was said to be accused by Roy for tampering the ball. Roy had said it to Wahab during the game at which both the players were seen involved in a brawl. No such evidence was however found.
Honouring Heroes Of Other Sports
During this year’s HBL PSL, PCB has decided to invite the heroes of Pakistan in other form of sports. Asian Games Running Gold Medalist, Naseem Hameed was invited and honoured. This initiative has been lauded by the fans all over the globe. The Tekken Esports Champion, Arslan Ashhas has also been honoured.
Indian Hiring Controversy For Opening Ceremony
There has been a thunder storm of anger for hiring Indians to organize the Opening ceremony, which itself was not considered professionally done. One of the famous media persons, Waqar Zaka pointed out that 132 Indians had been hired by the PCB for the opening ceremony. He made a twelve minute long video claiming this and the public is too made to be believed that the opening ceremony did not live up to the mark due this very reason. This has not been officially proven but public all over Pakistan is demanding a thorough investigation regarding this matter.
