India comfortably triumphed with a 3-0 victory over Pakistan and securing a berth in World Group 1.
The victory was confirmed on Sunday for India after a victory in the doubles category of the World Group I playoff tie in Islamabad. Having also won both singles matches on previous Day 1 on Saturday, the overall record of India against Pakistan in the Davis Cup now stands at 8-0.
The two nations had last competed in Kazakhstan during 2014, which India won 4-0.
Doubles Overview
In the first set Indian pair Bhambri and Myneni immediately took a 1-0 lead. Khan and Murtaza maintained their serve by serving an ace and double point in the same point. However, the Indian duo two points later broke the opponents serve at 4-1 and finished the set with 6-2 win. The second set was competed between the two teams with Indian winning 7-6. And sealing the tie win with 3-0 lead.
Singles Overview
The third singles match of the tie, was between Niki Poonacha of India and Pakistan’s Muhammad Shoaib which needed 64 minutes to be easily won 6-3, 6-4 by India.
Pakistan’s experienced player Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, who lost his singles match to Ramkumar Ramanathan on Saturday and had faced an hamstring injury. On Saturday, he did not play due to ongoing issue of hamstring injury.
Future Course
The twelve winning nations, including India from the World Group I play-offs will play a World Group I tie in September 2024. While the twelve losing nations will compete in a World Group II tie, also scheduled during September.

2024 Davis Cup World Group-1 PlayOff: Indian Player Edge Past To Win
The Davis Cup World Group -1 tie commenced today 2nd February 2024 at the Aisam ul Haq Tennis Pavilion Islamabad.
The doubles match will be played tomorrow on Sunday, 4th February morning at 11 am, followed by reverse singles, if required.

- Ramkumar Ramanathan beat Asiam ul Haq Qureshi in an exciting 3-set match. Aisam started off really strongly by taking the first set 7-6(3 ). The second set went to the wire again, which Ramkumar won 7-6(4). Aisam suffered a groin injury during the second set and was unable to continue his good form in the face of a resilient opponent.
Second Single match
- Sriram Balaji beat Aqeel Khan 7-5, 6-3. The first set was a closely fought affair, in which Sriram won 7-5. In the second set, Balaji was in control throughout the set to win it 6-3.
