The World Athletics Awards 2024 took place in Monaco, honoring the outstanding achievements of athletes, coaches, and officials in the sport. Sifan Hassan and Letsile Tebogo were named the Women’s and Men’s World Athletes of the Year, respectively.

Hassan and Tebogo’s Achievements

Sifan Hassan, from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, won three medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, including gold in the marathon, bronze in the 10,000m, and bronze in the 5000m. She became the first woman to win medals in the 5000m, 10,000m, and marathon at the same Games.

Letsile Tebogo, from the Republic of Botswana, made history by winning the 200m gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, setting an African record with a time of 19.46 seconds. He also won silver in the men’s 4x400m relay.
