Allsportspk Highlights of the Day 2, along with Medal Standing:
Alpine Skiing – Super-G
Slovakia’s Henrieta Farkasova, secured her second gold and seventh Paralympic title overall. On the other hand, Great Britain secured silver and bronze all thanks to Millie Knight and Menna Fitzpatrick respectively.
France’s Marie Bochet did not stand back as she claimed her sixth career Paralympic title, also the second time she got a medal at PyeongChang 2018. Germany’s Andrea Rothfuss followed as she got silver for a second successive day. And lastly, bronze was secured by Canada’s Alana Ramsay.
Anna Schaffelhuber won her seventh Paralympic gold medals in a row. The German took the women’s sitting title against her great rival, Claudia Loesch, who had to settle for a silver medal in this event. Japan’s Momoka Muaoka won the bronze medal in this event.
In the men’s vision impaired Slovakians Jakub Krako and Giacomo Bertagnolli won gold and bronze respectively. While silver was won by Italy’s Fabrizio Casal.
Meanwhile, Switzerland’s Theo Gmur won his second gold, and Arthur Bauchet who hails from France took silver and Marcus Salcher from Austria scored bronze on Day 2.
In the men’s sitting Super-G Andrew Kurka (who won Gold on the first day) was denied another Gold medal as Canada’s Kurt Oatway took away the first place in this event. Kurka had to settle for a silver and bronze was secured by France’s Frederic Francois.
Cross-country Skiing
Daniel Cnossen failed to pile up another gold medal as Ukraine’s Maksym Yarovyi took the first spot in the men’s sitting 15km race. Cnossen took silver for USA and South Korea won bronze all thanks to Eui Hyun Sin.
In the women’s race two US athletes Kendall Gretsch and Oksana Masters won gold and bronze respectively. While the silver medal was secured by the German Andrea Eskau.
Para Ice Hockey
South Korea remained unbeaten as they won their second match against Czech Republic with a narrow margin of 3-2. The match was quite thrilling and the Koreans won this match in overtime.
USA who are also defending champions began the event with a 10-0 victory over Japan. On the other hand, Canada also beat Italy by 10-0 to hand them a humiliating defeat.
Wheelchair Curling
On Day 2, Germans looked in top form as they secured their second win over USA by beating them with an overall score of 6-4. Meanwhile, Sweden beat Great Britain by 7-4 and secured an easy win.
The afternoon matches saw NPA recording its first win by beating Finland 12-5 while China claimed a 10-1 victory over Norway.
Canada also beat Sweden 8-4 and South Korea beat Slovakia 7-5.
In the final session, however Great Britain bounced back from their earlier defeat to record a 9-2 win over a Finland. Germany, who were going unbeaten in this tournament so far were beaten by China for an overall score of 7-3.
The last match of the day saw USA beat Sweden 10-2 and Switzerland secured a narrow win against Slovakia.
