Highlights & Analysis | |||
1. New Zealand batsman Nicholls played a life-time innings as he scored 145* runs off 268 balls to put New Zealand firmly in the driving seat of the match. He was supported well by the tail-enders who supported him from the non-strikers end. 2. These efforts led New Zealand to post a total of 427 runs on the board. The Kiwis now led by 369 runs and England had a tough job on their hands. 3. England’s openers got set on the crease with only one option on their minds i.e. to draw this match and save themselves from a loss. 4. However, Trent Boult who had demolished the England side in the first innings struck once again as he sent Cook back to pavilion after the opener only managed to score 2 runs. 5. From there on England found some relief in their captain Joe Root who along with Stoneman shared an 88-run partnership to steady things up for his team. 6. The two batsmen reached their individual fifties when Wagner struck and claimed the wicket of Mark Stoneman who got out on 55. 7. Joe Root and Malan were looking solid and the day was coming to end. England were in firm control as they had 8 wickets in hand. But Boult struck on the second-last ball of his over and removed Joe Root. 8. After this wicket the play came to an end as both teams walked off the ground. 9. England would be pretty satisfied with their performance as they would start the last day of this test match feeling pretty confident that they can force a draw. 10. New Zealand, on the other hand know that it is only a matter of few wickets and the match is theirs. This makes the last day quite exciting as it will be a test of England’s batting ability vs New Zealand’s attacking ability. 11. This is it for now. Do join us tomorrow for an exciting last day of this test match. |
