Highlights:

• With most of the favorite teams out of the World Cup 2018, Mexico were pretty confident of continuing this trend by knocking Brazil out of the World Cup.
• Mexico put up a strong defense in the 1st half as the Brazilian strikers couldn’t pass through the stone wall made up of Mexican defenders.

• On the other hand, Mexico also couldn’t score a single goal as the 1st half ended in a draw.

• In the 2nd half of the match, Mexico made an early substitution as Migel Layun was induced into the mid-field.
• But, this change didn’t help the Mexicans as the pressure created on Mexico finally bore fruit and Neymar scored the opening goal to put Brazil in the lead.

• Panic set in the Mexican line-up as suddenly they became much more aggressive with their attacks.
• Yellow cards and substitutions became the story for the next few minutes as Mexicans were trying their best to equalize the scoreboard.

• But, Brazil were not moving an inch from their defense as the Mexican attackers were denied one try after the other.
• The match entered the last five minutes of play as Philippe Coutinho was inducted into the attack and proved to a super substitution as 2 minutes later he scored to make it 2 – 0.

• Mexico couldn’t even score a single goal as they ousted out of the FIFA World Cup 2018.

Lost all respect for Neymar after today. Yes it’s a foul but the way he threw himself around it would be embarrassing to Sunday league players. In fact Brazil towards the end as a whole were ridiculous. What a bitter way to win!

• Japan: Genki Haraguchi 48′ , Takashi Inui 52′
• Belgium: Jan Vertonghen 69′ , Marouane Fellaini 74′ , Nacer Chadli 90’+4′

Match Statistics:

Highlights:

• Japan started the match against Belgium, hoping to pull off another major upset.
• On the other hand, Belgium also weren’t taking the Japanese lightly and the pre-match statement from Belgium’s goalkeeper endorsed the same idea.
• In the 1st half of the match, Belgium were quite impressive with their passes and play making style.

• Japan on the other hand, weren’t as much great in their ball passing, but it didn’t matter as neither they nor Belgium scored a single goal in the 1st half.

• The 1st half was quite boring, but the 2nd half was the complete opposite.
• As, 3 minutes into the 2nd half, Genki Haraguchi scored to surprise Belgium and put Japan in the lead.

• The Japanese weren’t done yet as Takashi Inui’s unbelievable goal from outside the box doubled the lead over Belgium.

• In an effort to get back into this match, Marouane Fellaini was substituted for Dries Mertens into the midfield.
• Belgium became ferocious with their play and after continuous attacks they broke the Japanese wall as Jan Vertonghen scored for Belgium.

• After 5 minutes Belgium scored yet again and this time it was the substitute, Marouane Fellaini whose superb header found the nets and Belgium equalized with 2 – 2.

• The match went into the 2nd half’s injury time as extra time was surely a possibility.
• But, the chances of a possible penalty shoot out was eliminated as Nacer Chadli scored and broke millions of heart to throw Japan out of the World Cup 2018.

Japan never parked the bus, they were very Flixible, no aggression, they showed what they have, going forward with 442 and defending with 424. Very attentive and organized. You see real coaching in this team. Massive respect to the people of Japan. They have made heir mark.

Really impressed with Japan.
Switching cohesively between 4-4-2, 4-2-4 and 4-2-3-1 and so well disciplined. Call it daft or brave to be attacking like they were at the death and yes, it was ultimately their undoing, but they can go home with heads held high. ??
