Tennis – US Open 2018: Defending Champion Knocked Out
Defending champion Sloane Stephens was thumped out of the US Open in the quarter-finals after she was beaten by the 19th seed Anastasija Sevastova. Stephens hit 27 unforced errors and lost 6-2 6-3 on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
With the extreme heat policy again in place, the American 3rd seed appeared to battle physically in the high temperatures of New York.

The high temperatures have been a critical issue amid the current year’s titles with the conditions portrayed as “dangerous” in the opening rounds, as Roger Federer said he was “happy the match was over” after his thrashing in a high humidity quarter-final against Millman.
It’s ironic to hear Sloane Stephens yell out; “COME ON!”, because when Serena did it during their match at The French Open, she complained about how disrespectful it was.

Stephens battled with her movement and was repeatedly being caught by Sevastova’s drop shot and after various wayward mistakes was bent double on the court. She neglected to set up a battle in a restricted first set and before long fell 4-1 behind in the second.
Supported by her home crowd, the world number three undermined a rebound by recovering the match on serve at 4-3 yet was then broken again before Sevastova served out.
