WBA World Bantamweight Title: Japanese Inoue KO Rodriguez
The WBA – World Boxing Association World Bantamweight Title was defended for the second time by Naoya Inoue. This fight was his 18th professional victory over Emmanuel Rodriguez and 16th via knockout at the 1:19 time in the second round.
The bout took place in Glasgow, Scotland. It was a semifinal bout in the WBSS – World Boxing Super Series for bantamweights, with Inoue participating as the second seed in the tournament.
This fight was the first of Inoues in the tournament which went beyond the first round. Rodriguez heavily competed in the fight, however, Inoue in the second round punished Rodriguez heavily and knocked him three times with referee finally endingthe bout.
This was a continued impressing performance of Inoue, which was appreciated by all boxing fans. In last May with similar destructive power style Inoue defeated the longtime reigning champion Jamie McDonnell followed by the defeat of Juan Carlos Payano during October 2019.
The next fight of Inoue in the World Boxing Super Series, will probably be with Nonito Donaire in the final round. Nonito who was present on site in Glasgow, stepped into the ring to appreciate Inoue after his outstanding performance. At this time both the fighters showed respect for each other and were excited to compete in the final round to win the WBA Title Belt as well as the Muhammad Ali Trophy.
