Wimbledon Tennis Day 3: Jjokovic, Teenager Gauff Enter 3rd Round
One the greatest Tennis tournaments kept the fans on their toes with thrilling contests.
Top seeds of the tournament have progressed while few big names failed to reach to the third round against younger opponents.
American teenage sensation Coco Gauff is enjoying a magic run in Wimbledon as she became the youngest ever to reach to third round since 1991. 15 years old Gauff and world number 313 surprised her opponent Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia with 6-3, 6-3 defeat, as she had already stunned five time champion Venus Williams in opening round of the tournament.
While expressing her happiness on win, Guff said that she played well during pressure points, though she is still shocked to be here.
Defending champion and world number one Novak Djokovic eased past Kudla of the USA, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 to progress in the third round, as he hit 13 aces and 37 winners in the game. Though Djokovic wanted to do better in the game, he was satisfied with his overall performance. Djokovic will face Hubert Hukacz in next round.
20 grand slams singles title winner and world number 2, Roger Federer looked nervous at the beginning against Lloyd Harris of South Africa, worked it out to take the game 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, and 6-2.
18 Grand slam title holder and world number two Rafael Nadal made it to the second round of Wimbledon with 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Japanese Y Sugita, as he will be up against N Kyrgios of Australia in round 2.
The 19th seed French Corentin Moutet eased off with 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 to make the third round of a Slam for the first time.
In another fixture, three time major tournament winner Stan Wawrinka could not get expected result and fell in five sets to Reilly Opelka.
Opelka dominated the game with 23 aces and 59 winners to find a spot against Milos Raonic of Canada for the first ever third round of any grand slam.
Russian Margarita Gasparyan was forced to retire from the game with just two points away from victory after severe pain against Ukrainian eighth seed Elina Svitolina.
World number 62 Gasparyan was ahead with 7-5, 5-4 when she collapsed to the ground after suffering with cramping.
Spanish star Fernando Verdasco staged an outstanding comeback to shock everyone, he recovered from two sets and 3-0 down to end up defeating British number one Kyle Edmund 4-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7/3), 6-3, 6-4.
Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic also progressed to next round with a 6-0 and 6-4 win over Puerto Rico’s Monica Puig.
Pliskova also eyeing world number one rank with a title of Wimbledon will have a match against Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan for a spot in the fourth round of tournament.
Former world number one Victoria Azarenka had an easy victory against her own countrywoman as she swept past Ajla Tomlkanovic with 6-2 and 6-0.
Former World No 1 Andy Murray will return to the court when he competes in the mix doubles with French partner P.H. Herbert in a highly anticipated match.
