Rafael Nadal recovered from his quarter final’s slump to lead his side into the ATP Cup 2020 finals after defeating France’s Alex de Minaur in a hard-fought semi-final clash.
Nadal struggled in the first set as Australian dominated 4-6 but the world number 1 chased down in second set 7-5 and then completely outclassed the opposition in the third set 6-1 to claim the match.
The victory means that Spain has qualified for the ATP Cup final thanks to Roberto Bautista Agut’s 6-1, 6-4 victory against Nick Kyrgios that gave them a 1-0 lead.
Spain will now face Serbia in the final clash for the champion title of the first edition of ATP Cup.
Earlier, Novak Djokovic downed World No. 5 Daniil Medvedev 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 in an epic clash that saw some of the longest rallies of this tournament so far.
Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic also defeated Karen Khachanov 7-5, 7-6(1) in his singles match to secure a birth in the finals for his team.
