Rocky Johnson, a WWE Hall of Fame member and father of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has passed away, at the age of 75.
Born in 1944, Johnson started his professional wrestling career at the age of 16 and went on to win a number of championships in the NWA – National Wrestling Alliance. He fought and defeated a number of legendary wrestlers of his era the likes of Jerry Lawler, Terry Funk, and Harley Race.
Johnson had a particular talent for tag-team wrestling where he ruled the arena along with a number of partners most prominently Samoan wrestler “High Chief” Peter Maivia and Tony Atlas that earned him the WWF – title in 1982.
The senior Johnson retired from the sport in 1991 and focused on training his prodigal son Dwayne Johnson who followed in his footsteps after 1996 WWF debut but went to make his own mark. It was The Rock who inducted his father into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008.
Johnson is survived by his sons, Dwayne and Curtis, and his daughter, Wanda.
Wrestling community expressed their condolences and paid emotional tributes to the legend wrestler in social media.
