| India’s Innings ⦁ Captained by Virat Kohli, India made two changes where Manish Pandey came in for Rishabh Pant, and Navdeep Saini came in for Shardul Thakur. ⦁ With all Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in the team, the foundation of the early innings had to be set by their openers. ⦁ India’s openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma started the innings for the home team. Australia handed the bowl to in form Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. ⦁ And as expected, Australia kept their momentum high as Pat Cummins started with a maiden over. ⦁ Sharma and Dhawan, however, provided India with a great start and India were 55/0 after the first powerplay. ⦁ Sharma lost his track when his leg was caught before the wicket after a beauty from Zampa. India were 81/1. ⦁ Dhawan was joined by Kohli and both kept ticking the scoreboard and India completed its 100 in 17.1 overs. ⦁ Both too completed the hundred partnership which involved half centuries from both Kohli and Dhawan. Dhawan, however, fell 4 runs short of his century and was dismissed by Kane Richardson and missed out on a well deserved 100. ⦁ Shreyas Iyer walked in but he too was soon clean bowled by Zampa and could just contribute 7 runs to the scoreboard. ⦁ Rahul joined Kohli and both of them made India cross the 200 mark in 33.1 overs as well. ⦁ Rahul, who was demoted low down the order did not show any signs of rustiness. ⦁ India were on 276 when they lost Kohli, who was dismissed by Zampa for the fifth time. Kohli got out after a brilliant innings of 78 runs. ⦁ Manish Pandey joined Rahul, however, he could not contribute anything much and got out for just 2 runs by Kane Richardson. ⦁ Jadeja walked in and along with Rahul made India cross the 300-mark in just 45.4 overs. ⦁ KL Rahul was runout by Alex Carey after his incredible 80 runs. He had by far done his job and provided India with a cameo India desperately needed. ⦁ Jadeja too played a short cameo for 20 runs and he, along with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul made India set a humongous target of 341 for the Australians. ⦁ Starc and Cummins both went wicketless in this game. The INDIA innings terminated with a target of 341 Runs. Australia’s Innings ⦁ Australia’s Opening duo David Warner and Aaron Finch arrived at the crease to face a reputed Indian bowling pair of Shami and Jasprit Bumrah. KL Rahul kept wickets instead of Rishabh Pant. ⦁ A quick start from Australian players suggested their aggressive mode, as both batsmen hit few boundaries. ⦁ David Warner looked in good touch from the very start but was just dismissed for 15 by a Mohammad Shami. Australia were 20/1. ⦁ Smith joined Finch and both kept the scoreboard ticking. Australia completed their 50 runs in just 9.3 overs and were 55/1 after the first powerplay. ⦁ Just when the innings had started stabilizing, Finch was struck was Ravindra Jadeja after a great work from KL Rahul behind the stumps. Australia were 82/2 then. ⦁ Marnus Labuschagne joined Steve Smith. It was Marnus’s first time to come and bat in ODIs and expectations were high from him. ⦁ Smith and Labuschagne started to build what looked like a great partnership and Australia crossed the 100 mark in 17.4 overs. The test sensation pair was what Australia needed to perform big to get Australia an unassailable lead. ⦁ New pair kept rotating strike to build partnership, meanwhile Steve Smith completed his half century as well. ⦁ Just when things had started to look bad for India, Jadeja came to rescue and provided India with the invaluable wicket of Marnus Labuschagne. He scored an almost run a ball 46 before getting dismissed. ⦁ Alex Carey walked in to join Steve Smith and Australia were 178/3 now. ⦁ Australia completed their 200 in 34.1 overs and what followed ahead was a tough run chase. ⦁ In the 38th over, Kuldeep Yadav dismissed both Steve Smith and Alex Carey to send back both the set batsmen and bring India back in the game. Yadav too completed his 100 wickets in international ODI cricket. ⦁ In the 44th over as well, Shami struck twice to dismiss Ashton Turner and Pat Cummins to almost wrap it up for India. He almost took a hat-trick but Mitchell Starc defended the hat-trick ball ⦁ In the 46th over again, Saini again struck twice to leave Australia with just one more wicket. He dismissed Ashton Agar and Mitchell Starc. ⦁ Australia crossed the 300 mark in 48.5 overs. ⦁ Bumrah took the last wicket of Adam Zampa to complete the proceedings and India win. India win by 36 runs and level the series 1-1 |
