TIU – Tennis Integrity Unit has banned the Brazilian 31 year old tennis player Joao Souza for lifetime.
The basis of the ban includes multiple corruption and match-fixing charges. Besides the ban, a $200,000 fine has also been imposed upon the Joao Souza.
The match fixing charges investigated by TIU range for the time period between 2015 and 2019. The investigation firmly concluded that Joao Souza had breached TACP – Tennis anti-corruption programme and thereby was involved in numerous match fixing incidents.
These incidents were ongoing and included various tournaments, including ATP challenger and ITF Futures tournaments, held in Mexico,The United States, Czech Republic and Brazil.
Besides, there were three other serious allegations on the Joao, which according to TIU investigation include:
- Failing to report his corrupt approaches.
- Joao failed to cooperate in the TIU investigation. Also includes very serious charge of destroying evidence.
- Also encouraged other players to underperform.
