The United States’ Women Football team defeated Costa Rica 6-0 in their Olympics qualifying tournament clash to get one step closer to qualify for the ultimate tournament in Tokyo later this year.

Christen Press and Samantha Mewis scored two goals each as US side absolutely dominated the game to finish on top of its group and qualify for the semi-finals extending their winning streak to 26 games. Lindsey Horan and Jessica McDonald also contributed with one goal each.

Eight teams from the North and South America region are playing in the qualifying tournament organized by The CONCACAF – Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football for two spots in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics scheduled to begin from July 25.

The lineup for the semi-finals will be confirmed tomorrow after the Canada Vs Mexico clash as the top two teams from both groups will face off for a sport in the final match.

The US is being pitched as the favorite for Tokyo Olympics riding on its World Cup victory last year. It has qualified for every Olympics since 196 and has claimed four gold medals so far.

In the other game of the day, Haiti beat Panama 6-0 but the result had no bearing on the semi-finals lineup as both teams have already been routed from the tournament.

Aside from the two teams from the Americas, six others have already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. They include; Great Britain, Sweden, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Brazil, and Japan.
