Nasir Jamshed former opener of Pakistan, pleaded guilty to conspiring to spot fix in a T20 match during PSL – Pakistan Super League 2016-17 season.
Nasir is already facing a 10 year ban, imposed by PCB – Pakistan Cricket Board after the PCB anti-corruption unit had found him guilty.
The Manchester Court sentenced Nasir and two other men, Yousef Anwar and Mohammed Ijaz, as follows:
- Nasir having to serve 17 years of jail imprisonment.
- Yousef 40 months of jail imprisonment.
- Ejaz 30 months of jail imprisonment.
For more than 2 years, Nasir has denied his involvement in the spot-fixing bribery. Finally, he changed his plea during a hearing at Manchester Crown Court in the United Kingdom and admitted to the charges.
The three men pleaded guilty to offering bribes to PSL players in an attempt to involve the players in the spot-fixing scandal.
The PCB ban involved Jamshed reportedly attempting to spot fix a BPL – Bangladesh Premier League match during 2016 season. According to investigation, Nasir Jamshed had agreed not to score runs in the first 2 balls of an over in BPL. Then during the 2017 edition of PSL, Nasir strongly encouraged other players to spot-fix a Peshawar Zalmi Vs Islamabad United to be played on 9th February match in Dubai
Nasir Jamshed, has played for Pakistan till 2015, in 48 ODIs, 18 T20Is and 2 Tests.
