The Small European Ski (SES) Nations Championships were held from 12th-15th January 2017 in Lebanon with the participation of teams from Lithuania, Romania, Portugal, Cyprus, Serbia, Armenia, San Marino, Hungary, Slovakia, Albania, Greece and host Lebanon.
The event featured giant slalom and slalom races in the senior and youth category for both genders on the slopes of Gebran Khalil Gebran in Arz, at Cedars Ski Resort, located close to the birthplace of famous Lebanese writer Gibran Khalil Gibran.
Good weather and snow conditions with winter temperatures provided optimal conditions for the competing athletes. Besides the competitions, the event also provided the opportunity to meet participants and friends from SES competitions.
On invitation of the Lebanese Ski Federation, FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis was on site to meet with the Organisers, the President of the Lebanese Ski Federation Charbel Salame, and a number of delegations who participated in the Championships.
“The SES Cup races were a great success organised by the highly dedicated team from the Lebanese Ski Federation. Having visited both Cedars Ski Resort and Faraya Mzaar which is located close to Beirut, the popularity of skiing in Lebanon is on an upward trajectory with record numbers of skiers enjoying the very good snow conditions”. said Sarah Lewis.
