Saudi Arabia sports ministry announced that the mega event “Saudi Games” will go ahead as scheduled during March 2020.
The Saudi sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki said that he was, “Proud to launch the biggest sporting event in the kingdom’s history.”
The announcement was somewhat a welcome cum challenging note, when due to the Coronavirus (C’virus) epidemic most events including sports are being cancelled. Till present no C’virus case has been reported in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Games, with a purse of One Million Riyal (USD 267,000) for Gold medallists is to be held in Riyadh from 23rd March till 1st April. The games will include 40 sports and be open to both genders – men and women. According to officials around 6,000 athletes are expecting to participate.
