In the three match ODI series between Australia and South Africa, the Proteas had dominated both the ODIs and looked to clean sweep the Australians 3-0. Whereas, the Kangaroos needed to win at least this game to get a consolation win.
Resultant was continuity of South African dominance and winning the 3rd ODI to clean sweep the series 3-0.

| Australia’s Innings ⦁ Losing both the games of the series, Australia needed to win this game as a consolation and finish the series on the good note. ⦁ Australia’s well-reputed batting line-up of David Warner and Aaron Finch started the innings for Australia, while Nortje and Sipamla were the bowlers to start the proceedings for South Africa ⦁ Australia suffered an early blow when David Warner was dismissed by Nortje for just 4 runs from 9 balls. ⦁ Steve Smith joined Aaron Finch and Australia managed 38/1 after the first batting power play. ⦁ Soon after the first power play, Steve Smith was too undone by Andil Phelukwayo after scoring 20 off 26 balls. Australia were 43/2 after they lost their best batsman. ⦁ Aaron Finch was too dismissed for 22 off 48 balls by Dupavillon and Australia were in deep trouble after they lost their top three at a measly score of 55. ⦁ Labuschagne and Darcy Short made their way to the middle to stabilize the Australian innings as Australia crossed the 100-run mark in the 26th over. ⦁ Just when both these batsmen were looking in a great touch,their 81 run stand was broken by a great pacey delivery from Smuts and Darcy was caught at mid-on by Klaasen after scoring 36 off 44 balls. ⦁ Labuschagne then led as a one-man army and completed his fifty runs off 59 balls. ⦁ Mitch Marsh along with Marnus Labuschangne looked to provide the Australian innings with a great resistance and completed the fifty-run stand in just 61 balls .⦁ Australia then suffered a blow as Mitch Marsh was dismissed by a great runout from David Miller and Australia were 189-5 then. ⦁ Carey was a come and go for Australia then as he was dismissed on a duck by Smuts and Australia needed someone to go big in the last ten. ⦁ Jhye Richardson walked in and joined the lone fighting Labuschagne and Australia crossed the two hundred mark in 44.4 overs ⦁ Marnus Labuschagne even went on to complete his run a ball century as well as Australia looked to put up at least a fighting total for South Africa to chase. ⦁ A short cameo from Jhye led Australia cross the 250 run mark.
