In the $250,000 Magnus Carlsen Invitational online chess tournament, Magnus Carlsen who was already the favourite defeated his strong opponent Fabiano Caruana 3-1 in a commanding manner.
After which Magnus retains his top position. The first two games were won by him and drew the rest to remain in a comfortable position.
The second third-round match, was won by Hikaru Nakamura who rose to the second place by beating the young Alireza Firouzja 3.0-0.5.
Hikaru drew the first match and went on to win the second to be ahead. Firouzja was near to win the the third match but lost due to pressure of limited time. In the final game, Fiouzja was dominated and in only 14 moves Hikaru won the third consecutive.
