Lahore: Pakistan Rugby team will leave for Doha on Thursday, where it will take part in the 11-country Asian Rugby 7s.
Pakistan Rugby team manager Syed Moazzam Ali Shah informed that besides Pakistan, the other participating nations are Singapore, Thailand, UAE, Philippines, India, Qatar, Iran, Bangladesh, Nepal and Jordan. “Pakistan team well prepared well for the event as they had very beneficial training camp and practice matches here and now they are in good form and ready to excel at this Asian Rugby event.”
He said that top rugby players of the county were selected in the national team. “The national team comprises Waseem Abbas, Umar Islam, M Shoaib Akbar, Ahmed Waseem Akram, Khalid Hussain Bhatti (vc), Saad Arif, Kashif Khawaja (capt), M Afzal, M Umair Sher, Khalid Mehmood, Nasir Mehmood and Shahid Mehmood while the officials are Shakeel Ahmed (coach), Mohsin Aziz (physio) M Ashraf Faisal Aslam.”
Captain Kashif Khawaja said: “Team has prepared well and I hope we will do well. The match against India will prove to be a tough contest and we will try our best to win it. Our main target is to finish in top 3 and my boys are ready to achieve this target.”
