As support to the Black Lives Matter movement, Mercedes the Formula One champion unveiled black-liveried cars for the 2020 season. This is to improve diversity in the motor-sport world and among the team members.
Since participation in Formula One race, Mercedes has had its car in silver colour. For 2020 season the car will be in black with ‘End Racism’ emblazoned on the halo of cars.
The new car will make its debut when the season commences with the Austrian Grand Prix. The Mercedes team will enter the season with British world champion Lewis Hamilton and team mate from Finland Valtteri Bottas.
Toto Wolff the principal of Mercedes team principal stated that the Black Lives Matter movement has made it clear that “Racism and discrimination have no place in our society, our sport or our team: this is a core belief at Mercedes.”
Hamilton the six-times Formula One champion added: “It’s so important that we seize this moment and use it to educate ourselves whether you are an individual, brand or company to make real meaningful changes when it comes to ensuring equality and inclusivity.”
