The Board of CSA-Cricket South Africa has been suspended by SASCOC- The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee for a period of one month. During this time an investigation will be launched regarding the conduct.
The CSA has instantly rejected the suspension of SASCO.
CSA has been engulfed in a major crisis after a disturbing report about the organisational conduct, which resulted in expulsion of CEO Thabang Moroe nine months ago.
Players and sponsors have also been seriously critical of the organisations governance issues. The reservations led to 30 reputed players from both men’s and women’s national teams forwarding a signed letter criticising the board for postponing the CSA’s Annual General meeting, which was to be held on 5th September.
The acting CEO Mr. Ravi Govender of SASCOC stated that this step is “to remove the negativity and governance issues around CSA, so that in future they can be more effective and efficient in their mandate”.
Elaborated that SASCOC was very concerned about the recent issues within CSA for which the board and requested the evasive forensic report, which has not been available.
Due to the prevailing circumstances the CS board has been asked to step aside for a month so that an independent team could evaluate the situation and inform SASCOC.
ICC-International Cricket Council has not reacted or commented on the development. However, Mr. Govender mentioned that already ICC had expressed its concern about CSA affairs and SASCOC management was sure that the decision taken by them will be acceptable to ICC, especially to make the cricket sport stabler in South Africa.
