LAHORE: A recently developed relationship between PCB and ACB has suddenly ended. Due to a bomb blast in Kabul, ACB hastily cancelled the friendly T20 matches which were scheduled with Pakistan in July and August in Kabul and Lahore.
PCB has rejected the ACB stance.
Last week both the agreements had agreed to revive ties by:
- Playing two friendly matches in Pakistan and Afghanistan and
- PCB providing Afghanistan with training and accustoming camps.
ACB has not issued any official reason but only tweeted:
@ACBofficials cancells friendly matches including initially agreed terms of mutual cricketing relationship with @TheRealPCB#kabulblast
10:48 PM – 31 May 2017
The PCB rejected the ACB allegations as baseless. The statement further states:
That while our sympathies are with the victims and families affected by the tragedy, however, we reject the irresponsible statement made by the ACB.
PCB has always encouraged the development of cricket in Afghanistan and millions of Afghan refugees were first introduced to the game in Pakistan. Over the years, the PCB helped cricketers in Afghanistan develop their expertise and an entire generation of Afghan national players honed their cricketing skills in Pakistan.
The informal understanding with ACB last weekend was strictly subject to conducive security conditions in Afghanistan and now stands cancelled because of continuing insecurity and instability there.
It is also deeply regrettable that the ACB delegation in Pakistan was at pains to insist that politics should not impinge on cricket but has now turned around and is playing politics by laying the blame for its troubles and inadequacies on Pakistan.
