Bangladesh easily defeated touring Ireland in the 2nd T20I at Chattogram, taking an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three match series. The match was reduced to 17 overs per side as routine play was delayed due to rain.
Last match of the series will be played at Chattogram on 31st March.
Ireland won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. The decision backfired as the Bangla Tigers went on the rampage from the word go. Litton Das and Rony Talukdar crafted an opening stand of 124 runs in 9.2 overs. The first 50 was scored in only 3.3 overs and the 100 came up in 7.1 overs. Ireland were able to stem the flow of runs a little bit in the later overs but still Bangladesh compiled 202 runs in the allotted 17 overs for the loss of 3 wickets. Litton Das scored a whirlwind 83 in only 41 balls. Rony Talukdar kept pace with a brisk 44 of only 23 deliveries. Shakib Al Hasan with 38 and Towhid with 24 chipped in usefully. For Ireland, Ben White was most economical and successful bowler, taking 2 wickets for 28 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
Ireland innings was a disaster from the start as opener Paul Stirling was out on the very first ball of Ireland innings, caught behind by Das off the bowling of Taskin Ahmed. The wickets kept tumbling regularly and the visitors could manage only 125 runs in the allotted 17 overs for the loss of 9 wickets. Only three batsmen could reach double figures as Curtis Campher made a determined endeavor with a score of 50 in 30 balls in the middle of the innings. Harry Tector with 22 and Graham Hume with 20 were the only otter batters to reach double figures. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan was almost unplayable, claimimg 5 wickets for only 22 runs in 4 overs. He was also declared Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
