The Afghanistan Shpageeza Cricket League ’20 commenced with a glittering ceremony at the Champion Amanullah Khan International Cricket Stadium in Kabul. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Afghan President, Mr. Ashraf Ghani and other dignitaries, including limited fans and spectators due to Cvirus controls.
The Shpageeza League has participation of six teams which are: Speenghar Tigers, Kabul Eagles, Bost Defenders, Mis-e Ainak Knights, Band-e Amir Dragons, Amo Sharks.
Unfortunately the league in terms of player participation is not carrying the required spark, as six of the reputed and crowd puller players are presently in West Indies playing the Caribbean Premier League. After which three of the popular players – Mujeeb Rahman Zadran, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan would join the IPL-Indian Premier League in UAE.
Despite the league having started, the health officials are seriously concerned about spread of Coronavirus as it is next to impossible to apply the social distancing and other rules of precaution. The player caution factor is supposedly also not being given importance by ACB-Afghanistan Cricket Board. As a first precautionary measure the health ministry only permitted 30 percent of the spectators for the inauguration along with applying all recommended precautionary measures.
