Allsportspk 2019 International Achievers: Top Male Athletes
Kylian Mbappé – Football
Kylian Mbappé began the year 2019 on a quite positive note after just being named Breakout player of 2018 world cup for his stellar performance and he continued the winning streak well into 2019.
French Footballer completed his 100 international goals, led his club side PSG to the Ligue 1 championship title and also won player of the year 2019 award for being the top scorer of the year with 22 goals.
He also became the youngest player to score 15 goals in a single championship.
Rafael Nadal – Tennis
Rafael Nadal had a Topsy-turvy 2019 and it is exactly this struggle of his that earned him a spot at this list. Former multiple grand slam champion began the year on a high note but was soon forced to withdraw from championships due to a hip injury.
After recovering from the injury, the Spanish tennis maestro breezed through to the Australian Open where he lost to Novak Djokovic and was again forced to sit out of several contests due to injury.
But then the 33-year-old pro began his upward trajectory in the second half of 2019 and went on to win both the French and US Open championship and also retained his World number 1 spot as the year 2019 came to an end.
Nadal became the first-ever tennis player to gain, lose and regain the number 1 rank on four separate occasions, a true comeback story indeed.
Tiger woods – Golf
Tiger Woods can be rightly called the comeback player of 2019 for his fantastic performance after a lackluster 2018. The US golfer won his first Major title in a decade, a feat most analysts thought was unachievable by the veteran.
Woods not only made his mark on the course during the summer by winning the Zozo Championship in Japan but was also honored with the US Presidential Medal of Freedom in July before undergoing knee surgery.
The 43-year-old capped the year 2019 in an outstanding manner when he led the US side to a surprising victory in the Presidents Cup in Australia by winning all his matches.
