Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy #ARST2018: Day 1
The Asian Rugby Sevens Trophy, started with 18 matches being played on the first day and the winning teams progressing to the semi-final round to be played on the 5th August – Sunday at the Queenstown Stadium, Singapore.
The teams which won their respective matches on Day 1 of Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy were:
- Bangladesh
- Laos
- Brunei
- Nepal
- Pakistan
- Jordan
- Indonesia
- Uzbekistan
- UAE
- Thailand
- Singapore
- Kazakhstan
Pakistan team qualified for plate semifinals against Jordan. The team moved to this stage after winning two matches.
First match was won against Brunei by 19-5. From Pakistan side Nasir Mehmood scored two tries while Khalid Bhatti scored one try. Ahmed Wasim and Nasir Mehmood each convert one try and scored points.
In 2nd match, Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 19-12 in a very well contested match between two Asian teams.
In the last league match Pakistan team lost against the hot favorite and host Singapore by 26-7.
Based on 2 wins and 1 loss, Pakistan team is placed 2nd in the Pool C, thereby, Pakistan qualified to play for Plate semi-final.
According to the team coach, Mr. Shakeel Ahmed, the Pakistan players were very good and played aggressively, however, against Singapore, the experience which is evident from the ranking of Singapore team went to there advantage.
As to the final outcome, the coach was confident that the chances are bright to win the Plate final.
