Boxing: Adonis Stevenson Diagnosed With Brain Injury After Knockout
Boxer Adonis Stevenson has endured a serious brain injury after his knockout by Ukrainian Oleksandr Gvozdyk in Quebec City on Saturday.
The 41-year-old, Stevenson, boxing’s most established and longest-ruling champion, has had medical surgery and stays in escalated care.
Stevenson’s promoter Yvon Michel said on Sunday the boxer’s condition had gone from severe to stable.
The doctors said it is too soon to remark on his long term wellbeing.
Stevenson endured an eleventh round knockout on Saturday amid the light-heavyweight session, drooping after a whirlwind of punches from Gvozdyk.
Stevenson was making his tenth WBC title defence since winning the belt in 2013 by crushing American Chad Dawson and had effectively safeguarded the title against Britain’s Tony Bellew.

Just read that Adonis Stevenson has been upgraded from critical condition to stable. He is still in a medically induced coma. No matter his past, we should never wish that on anyone, not even an enemy. It’s not a joking matter. What’s wrong with some of you?
