IOC – International Olympic Committee and the Japanese organising officials announced that the 2020 Olympics will be held from 23rd July to 8th August 2021.
Last week due to the Coronavirus pandemic the postponement of the event was announced for a year, without confirming a date.
In the 124-year history of the modern Olympics this is the first time that a postponement has taken place.
Financially it will have a major impact on Japan, as US$13 billion had been invested.
Since last few weeks the decision to postpone or hold the event was pending. Finally, the postponement was announced. Which is a decision which had to be taken as globally the Coronavirus has paralyzed all aspects of globally functioning, thereby, it was out of question to hold an event of Olympic magnitude which has global participation.
Further, after the postponement announcement the week before, there has been a sudden increase in the number of Covid-19 confirmed case in Japan.
