The men’s T20 World Cup, due to continued expectancy of coronavirus pandemic has been postponed till 2021.
The event was to be held in Australia during 2020, between 18th October and 15th November. According to ICC, the T20 after 2021 will also have another edition in 2022.
Further, the decision regarding venues remains pending:
- Will the 2021 tournament as per plan be organised in India?
- Will the 2022 edition be held in Australia?
- Instead will the 2021 edition be moved to Australia and 2022 edition to India?
Besides, the ICC also clarified that the One-day 2023 men’s World Cup in India will be moved from February/March to October/November.
Based on the above schedule, there will be three major cricket events during three consecutive years 2021-2023 – men’s T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022 and the 50-overs World Cup during 2023.
The ICC statement added that the coronavirus situation would be continuously monitored especially before the women’s World Cup 2021, to be held in New Zealand.
