Oman began their campaign for the Cricket World Cup League 2020 on a victorious note by defeating the hosts Nepal by 18 runs in the opening match of the 2023 Cricket World Cup qualifying tournament.
Batting first, Oman had set a target of 198 runs in 50 overs thanks to Man of the Match Mohammad Nadeem’s unbeaten 69. Karan KC claimed four wickets for 47 runs to restrain Oman to an achievable target.
But the home side could not manage it and were bowled out for 179 runs in the 47th over. Sharad Vesawkar was the only prominent batsman and scored 55 before being bowled by Aqib Ilyas in the 43rd over.
This was Nepal’s debut match in the ICC Cricket World Cup League, a part of the qualifying matches for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup scheduled to take place in India.
The league is being played in the form of several tri-series spread throughout 2019 to 2022. Seven teams are participating in the league and the top three will secure a place in the final World Cup qualifiers in 2022.
Team USA currently tops the leaderboard with most points after winning 6 out of their 8 matches in the league so far.
