Cycling – Vuelta a Espana ’18 Stage 13: Oscar Rodriguez Wins
Race Summary:
- Oscar Rodriguez was the surprising champ of the ongoing Vuelta a España stage 13. The rider took triumph, in front of WorldTour riders Rafal Majka and Dylan Teuns on the summit finish to Alto La Camperona.
- The Spaniard had been a piece of the day’s colossal breakaway gathering, and could connect crosswise over to Majka and Teuns who had assaulted on the lofty last climb.
- As he contacted them, he scarcely delayed as he proceeded with his pace and quickly reduced the distance in the last kilometer.
Oscar Rodriguez puts the cherry on Euskadi Murias already brilliant season. ? One of the biggest surprises in a very long time. I’m curious who tipped him for the win before the last 2 kms! #LaVuelta18 pic.twitter.com/PVqQz1jWbK

- Majka kept on pursuing him, however there was nothing he could do to stop Rodriguez clutching and take a momentous triumph for his Euskadi-Murias group who will check this as an effective stage win.
- In the GC battle, Simon Yates and Nairo Quintana holed their opponents in the last kilometer, with the Colombian removing the Briton in the last 100m to complete with a 6 second favourable position.
Oscar Rodriguez didn’t know the name of the BMC rider he caught & passed today, & Dylan Teuns definitely didn’t know much (or anything) about Rodriguez. Now they’ll never forget each other.

- Jesus Herrada clutched the general lead despite being dropped on the climb, however his overall gap is down to 1-42 over Simon Yates.

Who would have thought Óscar Rodríguez would win this morning? Even late onto the final climb Majka looked in control only for Rodríguez to breeze past and take the stage win. That’s probably sorted Euskadi-Murias’s wildcard invitation for next year

The magnitude of Oscar Rodriguez’s performance today. He climbed La Camperona at the same speed as the top GC guys. I love his team and I really hope that he can repeat such performances in the future. Today, he was exceptional. ?? #LaVuelta18 pic.twitter.com/9uOWoBgUm7
