Cycling – Vuelta a Espana ’18 Stage 14: Simon Yates Wins
Simon Yates assaulted a little gathering on the summit finish of stage 14 of the 2018 Vuelta an España, taking stage triumph and recovering the general lead.

Nobody could promptly react to Yates’ turn with 700m to go on the lofty climb of Les Praeres, with even late counter-assaults from Miguel Angel Lopez and Alejandro Valverde, insufficient to prevent him from taking the win.
The Briton recovered the red jersey with race pioneer Jesus Herrada dropped inside the last 30km of the hilly 171km phase.
Credit when credit is due. That was perfection from Simon Yates. Saved his legs – while Quintana & López were busy not working together – to make sure he had one last powerful kick. Very impressive! Bala is Bala. Can’t help sprinting when he smells a finishing line 🙂 #LaVuelta18

Nairo Quintana who had been the most dynamic of the GC contenders on the last climb, seemed to have spent way too much energy. As, he could only finish 5th, seven seconds behind Yates with Thibaut Pinot pipping him to the line.
Yates presently drives the generally rankings by 20 seconds over Valverde in second and 25 seconds over Quintana in third place.

Difficult to say that Movistar messed it up on such a steep climb. But Lopez not helping Nairo certainly didn’t help. Simon Yates was very strong and expected for the right moment. Bravo! ? #LaVuelta18 pic.twitter.com/luk5zIqkr7

The tortoise…
hasn’t yet noticed that Simon Yates is pushing hard in the GQ.
You’d have thought he would have been a bit interested seeing he’s an Iberian Herman.
In fact, I think he’s already considering hibernation – know the feeling!— John Alexander White (@johnawhite) 7 September 2018
