Football-Africa Cup Of Nations ’19: Egypt, Algeria Lead At Group Stage
CAIRO: The Group stage matches of the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 continued with the major teams winning their respective matches.The round of 16 in Africa Cup of Nations will begin on July 5. Quarter finals are scheduled from 10th to 15th July, while Final of Africa’s biggest tournament is to be played on 20th July.
In the Egyptian Vs Uganda match, the international Egyptian stalwart star Mohammad Salah scored a free kick to secure Egypt a 2-0 win over Uganda to help them move in to the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations with an unbeaten record.
Host Egypt doubled their lead in first half of the match as Ahmed Elmohamady’s powerful low drive hit the net.
Though, Uganda made it hard for the tournament’s favorites, with goal keeper Mohammed El-Shenawy was involved in multiple saves.
Egypt secured three victories at the group stage to secure top spot, as they defeated Zimbabwe by 1-0 and DR Congo by 2-0
In another game Ivory Coast dominated Namibia by 4-1 to find a place in last 16, after late goals from Wilfried Zaha and Maxwel Cornet. Sadio Mane missed and later scored a penalty to help Senegal reach in last 16.
Madagascar sealed top spot at the group stage, as they defeated Burundi 1-0 and Nigeria 2-0 after playing a draw with Guinea 2-2. 29 year old forward Carolus Andriamatsinoro scored 2 important goals for team to reach in last 16.
Algerian team also remains undefeated in the tournament as they won against Kenya, Senegal and Tanzania. The best display against Kenya gave the side a 2-0 victory secured their top spot in the group.
Morocco is also enjoying an unbeaten run in the tournament so far. 1-0 against Namibia, 1-0 against Ivory Coast and 1-0 against South Africa gave 9 points to the side to finish on top.
