London: ICC at the end of its annual general meeting confirmed that it plans to send a World XI to the country later this year. This is a step forward for the full resumption of international cricket in Pakistan.

The ICC board announced that plans for a World XI visiting Pakistan to play a three-game Twenty20 series later this year were “continuing to be developed”. Elaborating ICC said, that all the matches would be given full T20I status and will take place in Lahore and “further details will be announced in due course.”

Since 2009 Pakistan has played all its ‘home’ matches in an international venue. The only team which has visited the country is Zimbabwe.

After Pakistan winning the final of Champions Trophy tournament, Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has said: “I hope this win will boost Pakistan cricket and all the (major) playing nations will come to Pakistan.” In addition, the coach Mickey Arthur said, “So hopefully that starts paving the way for future tours. We can only hope.”
