The 2020 Kabaddi World Cup has started in Lahore, Pakistan amid much fanfare with teams from 10 countries participating.
But a row has erupted in India regarding the status of Indian contingent participating in the Kabaddi World Cup 2020 with Indian government officials denying any knowledge about their participation.
In vain efforts were made by Allsportspk to have a clarification and version of Government officials and PKF – Pakistan Kabbadi Association.
Multiple reports in Indian media quoted India’s Union Sports Ministry officials as well as a spokesperson for the AKFI – Amateur Kabbadi Federation of India denying any prior approval in this regard.
AKFI administrator Justice (Retd) S P Garg told Indian media that their association has not given any clearance to the athletes participating in the kabaddi World Cup in Pakistan.
A 60-member strong contingent of Indian circle kabaddi players arrived in Lahore on Sunday for the World Cup and was warmly welcomed by Pakistani officials.
This is the first time that Pakistan is hosting the Kabaddi World Cup. All previous editions were hosted and won by India.
Teams from Australia, England, Germany, Iran, Azerbaijan, Sierra Leone, Kenya and Canada are also taking part in the event.
The Kabaddi World Cup will run from 10-16 February and matches will be played in different cities of Punjab. Final will be played in Lahore on Sunday, February 16 with champion team taking home winning trophy and a cash prize of 10 million Rupees.
