The super star Lionel Messi of Argentina has skipped Barcelona’s training session and medical tests. All other Barcelona players underwent the medical tests and participated in training.
According to media reports Messi’s father and agent Jorge will meet Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu on Wednesday, 2nd September to resolve the issue of Messi’s departure from club.
The 33 years old Messi joined Barcelona in 2005 and signed his latest contract in 2017 that will terminate on 30th June 2023. Messi earns US$ 80 million annually but he wants to depart from Barcelona now for free. As per details of the agreement there is a clause which binds him to pay €700 million as buy-out if he wants to quit instantly. However, there is another clause which allows him to leave for free if he informs club a year in advance. Messi is insisting club to apply free departure clause while club insists Messi to avail €700 million buy-out clause. Both sides are not showing any flexibility.
Earlier, Messi sent a certified burofax to the club on 25th August regarding quitting which was highlighted by the media. Thereafter, Ramon Planes, Sporting Director of Barcelona, announced that Messi and Barcelona may resolve the issues through internal home work. But Bartomeu and Messi refused to meet each other on 28th August to discuss Messi’s departure.
