The third and final day of racing across the Bay of Islands in the Millennium Sailing Cup 2020 concluded with the 34.14-meter Derecktor sailing yacht Kawil extending her overall lead in the competition to be crowned champion in her debut race.
Kawil struggled to find her spot in the beginning as 54.6-meter Vitters yacht Adele took the lead but soon found her speed back as wind conditions got better and leapt to the front.
The newly inducted superyacht had made her presence known on the very first day of racing by finishing a good 5 minutes ahead of other yachts. This lead came in pretty handy when Kawil lost the day 2 race to Adele but managed to maintain her overall lead.
The Kawil team was ecstatic to record their inaugural victory and hoped to continue the similar performance at the bumper 2021 edition where the competition is expected to get even tougher.
Other notable competitors included Silvertip and Sassafras who finished at numbers three and four respectively as the third day of first-round came to an end with Kawil taking home the champion title.
The Millennium Cup regatta took place in the Bay of Islands from January 29 to February 1 and 36 yachts from across the world were competing for the top prize.
