The Constructor Honda is set to quit Formula One at the end of the 2021 season. During the current season Honda is ranked as second best while Mercedes is enjoying the lead.
Due to this decision two Formula One teams – Red Bull and Alpha Tauri, will have to find a new engine supplier. Additionally the motor sports Formula One will be left with just three engine companies Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari.
Honda is leaving because Formula One and other car industry is moving away from internal combustion engines to fuel-cell vehicle and battery technologies. Honda want to support the vision of Carbon Neutrality By 2050 through future power-unit and energy technologies.
Christian Horner – Red Bull team principal also expressed concerns about carbon emissions but asserted that there may be other solutions for this purpose.
