Hidilyn Diaz dominantly showed her presence at the 2020 Eleikja International Lifters Tournament, which was sponsored by weightlifting equipment manufacturer Eleiko.
In the online event, Diaz who is a silver medallist of 2016 Olympics, lifted 216 kilograms – 95 in the snatch and 121 in the clean and jerk. In the 59-kg category, Diaz dominated among participants from 63 nations.
Diaz is still short of one competition to confirm a slot in Tokyo Olympics. Presently, being No. 4, first three are Chinese and as only one per country can compete in the 55kg class of the 10 per weight category.
As per the tournament procedure all entrants had to email their performance entries via video entry.
Australia’s Fatima Yakabu and Johanni Taljaard of South Africa, who scored 189 and 188 were the silver and bronze medallist, respectively.
Diaz the 2020 Roma World Cup champion and 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medallist while shared her feelings on her Facebook page, “I was supposed to compete today in #Tokyo2020, I already imagined the crowd would be full of Filipinos cheering for my win in Olympics but because of the COVID-19 Pandemic the Olympics was moved to July 23-Aug 8, 2021, that imagination got blurred.”
