Highlights & Analysis

1.   Ireland had high hopes from Day 5 as they started the match looking to take their lead above 200 runs with 3 wickets still in their hand. But it seemed like Pakistan had other plans.

2. It was Kevin ‘O Brien on whom Ireland had pinned their hopes on as the centurion could potentially take them his team to a match-winning lead.

3. But the Irish batsman had no answer to Mohammad Abbas’s exquisitive bowling as he didn’t allow Kevin to score even a single run on Day 5.

3. Now only 2 wickets were left and Ireland desperately needed a solid partnership from the tail-enders if they wanted to make a match out of it.

4. However, Mohammad Abbas continued with his persistent lenghts as he bowled the last two batsman and Ireland could only manage a 160 lead over Pakistan.

5. It was time for the 2nd innings and Pakistan only needed 160 runs to win this historic test match against Ireland. But in order to do so Pakistanis would need to endure the Irish pace attack and their 4th innings collapses.

6. So, the 2nd innings went underway as Pakistani openers got set on the crease and looked to score runs. But, that wasn’t going to happen as Murtagh struck in the 1st over to send Azhar Ali back to the pavilion.

7. And, this wicket started the collapse of Pakistan innings as Ireland got rid of two more batsman inside 5 overs to leave Pakistan 14-3. This was the time when Pakistan wanted a big partnership and they got one in the form of Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam.

8. Both these batsmen shared a massive 126-run stand to ensure that Pakistan stay on a winning track.

9. Although, Ireland struck twice after this partnership as they removed Babar and Sarfraz but it hardly mattered as Imam-ul-Haq played an innings of a lifetime to steer his team to victory.

10. Pakistan won the match by 5 wickets, but it was Ireland whose efforts were applauded by the crowd as they finished this historic match with a loss after fighting for it for 4 riveting day.

11. Mohammad Abbas took 9 wickets in this match, but it was Kevin ‘O Brien who was named the man of the match for his extraordinary century in the 2nd innings of this historic test match.
