Highlights & Analysis |
-
- The Islamabad United have been on an absolutely fantastic run of form and used all the momentum they had to produce a near flawless performance. They showed swagger and controlled proceedings from the very off. The run rate was always around the nine or ten runs per over mark throughout the innings and the Islamabad batting lineup made sure that it never fell as every new batsman asserted themselves immediately. The Multan bowlers' lengths and lines were all over the place, with only Umar Gul able to put any sort of pressure on the batsmen.
- The batting effort from the Sultans was absolutely dreadful. There is no other way to describe it. Aside from one batsman, no other scored more than thirteen runs. That is simply not acceptable if you are chasing such a mammoth total. The one batsman who did score more than thirteen runs was Kieron Pollard, who singlehandedly propelled his side’s score to a respectable final tally. With awesome power hitting and splendid timing, the West Indian scored seventy three runs in an innings that showed determination mixed in with application.
- The bowling from the United deserves credit as well. All the bowlers were on the money and their constant pressure meant that the Sultans kept losing wickets. Even during Pollard’s whirlwind innings, the bowlers kept their heads and kept trying. In the end, Pollard fell as well. Credit for that has to also be given to the calm, composed captaincy of Misbah-ul- Haq.
- Islamabad United have now successfully qualified for the next round and sit pretty at the top of thetable. Multan are still in the running but will have to rely on Peshawar losing one of their two matches.
