7th Samson Memorial Golf: Qasim & Nisar on the top
In the 7th Samson Memorial Golf Tournament was held at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf, supported by Silk Bank, SA Gardens and Gymkhana members.
The competition concluded with Qasim Ali Khan emerging as the winner in gross section and Nisar Zaman as the competitor with the best net score. Others who sparkled in the various events at stake were Mrs Asma Shami in the Ladies section, Asad Khan in the seniors section and Haroon Saleem in the Category “A”Caddies section.
Samson Memorial Golf championship is arranged by Rashid Masih, a golf supervisor at Lahore Gymkhana in memory of his son Samson ,who was a caddie at the club and died in a tragic accident seven years ago. Through immense devotion Rashid Masih manages to raise sufficient funds each year with the help of Gymkhana golf playing members to hold this event in a befitting manner and a part of the funds raised are donated and handed over to the mother of the deceased Samson.
As regards the 7th Samson Memorial Golf Championship, this year it had events for Senior Caddies, Staff Caddies, Category “B” Caddies, Veteran golfers, Senior Golfers, Ladies and Amateurs.
In the Caddies events those who attained top positions were Muhammad Abbas as the top one in Senior Caddies section, Pervaiz John as the best in Staff Caddies segment, Sabir in the Category “B” Caddies section and Haroon Saleem in Category “A” Caddies segment.
In the events for amateurs, Qasim Ali Khan dazzled with a feast of solid stroke making and by virtue of accurate hitting and good putting compiled a champion like score of gross 72. While he radiated in the gross competition, Nisar Zaman had an impressive net score of 67 and came first in the race for net honours. Undoubtedly these two top ones were accurate off the tees and the accuracy fetched them good scores and in the process they managed to curb the challenge posed by some very established players who had to be content with positions other than the first.
