Scrabble-34th Brand’s Crossword Game King’s Cup: Day 2
The Brand’s Crossword Game King’s Cup is Thailand’s national Scrabble event and it is regarded as the largest tournament in the world, based on the number of players.
Interestingly, a confusion of why this event being called Crosswords instead of Scrabble. The reason is that because of the game of scrabble is called Crosswords in Thailand.
The tournament has the word King as it has a trophy from the King of Thailand. It is the largest and prestigious tournament in the world, in terms of the number of players. This year, 66 players are participating with Komol Panyasophonlert of Thailand, all energized to defend his title. Another player being eyed is Nigel Richards of New Zealand, who will be targeting to win the title for the 14th time.
The main objective is to promote Scrabble as a sport in Thailand to learn the language of English. The result is Thailand producing 2 World Champions and quite a few leading international players.Pakistan’s current no. 1 player and former national champion, Waseem Khatri is all representing Pakistan at the 34th Brand’s Crossword Game King’s Cup.
