Lahore: Barry’s outpaced Master Paints by 7½-5 to win the Shoe Planet Pakistan Polo Cup 2016 trophy here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on Sunday.
Hamza Mawaz Khan of Barry’s was superb with mallet and horse and displayed outstanding polo , winning man of the match award . He remained top scorer with fabulous four goals while his father Taimur Mawaz Khan scored a brilliant brace. Experienced Raja Samiullah also contributed with an important one goal. From Master Paints, Hissam Ali Hyder played superb polo as he pumped in four goals and Ahmed Ali Tiwana hit one, but all that proved insufficient to take them to victory stand.
Hamza Mawaz started the match in great style and opened the account with his field goal to take 1-0 lead which was leveled by Hissam to finish the chukker at 1-1. The high-voltage second chukker saw both teams scoring total five goals ,three by Barry’s and two by Master Paints. Hamza completed his brace with a field goal to make it 2-1 but Ahmed Tiwana also scored a field goal to draw the blood at 2-2. Taimur Mawaz then played exceptionally well hitting a field goal to once again give 3-2 lead to Barry’s which was again leveled at 3-3 by Hissam moments later. In the dying moments of the chukker, Taimur hit a superb field goal to finish the chukker at 4-3 , keep Barry’s one goal ahead of Master Paints.
The third chukker was dominated by Master Paints, who struck two goals through Hissam while from Barry’s, Raja Samiullah hit one to finish the chukker at 5-5 level. In the fourth and decisive chukker, Hamza stamped his authority and scored a brilliant brace to steer Barry’s to 7-5 triumph. With half goal handicap advantage, Barry’s won the match 7½-5. Saqib Khan Khakwani and Azam Hayat Noon supervised the match as field umpires.
In the subsidiary final, ZTBL defeated Dollar East by 7½-6. Saqib Khan Khakwani played the finest polo and lifted the team from behind as Dollar East had 6-2½ lead, but Saqib turned the tables and slammed fabulous five goals to guide his team to 7½-6 victory. In all, Saqib hammered six goals while Mumtaz Abbas Niazi contributed with one goal in his team’s triumph. From Dollar East, Sufi Muhammad Amir scored a hat-trick while Andres Crispo scored a brace and Omar Asjad Malhi hit one. Azam Hayat Noon and Agha Murtaza officiated the match as field umpires
